The organization creates permanent social change by tackling underlying causes of poverty so that people can become self-sufficient. CARE also delivers emergency aid and recovery assistance to survivors of war and natural disasters. The organization's programs involve agriculture and natural resources, education, emergency relief, health, HIV/AIDS, nutrition, economic development, and water, sanitation, and environmental health. Over 90% of the funds donated to CARE are channeled into program activities, with 71%; spent on community development and 21% on emergency and rehabilitation.
